Authenticating remote users - 2007/02/26 17:29 Since we are going to being using Joomla for our complete site redesign I'm trying to plan ahead.

One question that has come up is how are people authenticating remote users via their Joomla site?

Are they using a special module (or whatever) that interacts with their RPA or are they using a proxy like ezproxy?

Any insight would be appreciated!

Do you mean - how do you approve people when they signup for an account on your site? Joomla has a buildin module for that. I use a third party component -Community Builder on my sites. And its login and administration module. When someone sign up for an account, I will be notified under my administrative taskes and/or via email if I choose.

Re:Authenticating remote users - 2007/02/27 22:46 If you are referring to Sirsi/Dynix Remote Patron Authentication (RPA), then you can see an example at my Library site. Follow this link and you will see the page where Library members can select a database and then be authenticated thru RPA.

Clicking in the database link takes you to the Library RPA server (located behind the Library firewall using port forwarding). You could use a wrapper as well so that the RPA Server page appears within your Joomla website but I found this to be distracting.

There is not much to it really. Hope this helps you?

I'm curious -- if you've thought about how you will incorporate Horizon 8 with any Joomla functionality.

Thank you again!

Re:Authenticating remote users - 2007/03/02 03:11 Adri,

Glad to help you! I am very interested in the newer Integrated Library Systems. I am hoping that my Library will upgrade by 2008. Sirsi/Dynix Horizon and other ILS's should offer many possibilities for integrating Mambo/Joomla with the ILS.
