Joomla for the Proletariat - 2007/07/13 00:15 I am wondering about the opinions of the members of this site concerning Joomla and its possibilities for those smaller library systems that want and need great websites but can not afford them. My hope is that the open source movement will truly provide "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" effect within the library community. That not just the haves but the have nots will be able to provide "Library 2.0" websites within technology that is affordable and accessible.

Any Library with bucks and infrastructure can put out a great site! Be it Joomla, Drupal, Cold Fusion or Microsoft ASP .NET. I want to see a low budget library with the best dam Joomla library website on the Internet.

Take an old Pentium PC with Linux and knock our socks off!

Re:Joomla for the Proletariat - 2007/07/17 15:12 Yes that would be cool. But don't forget that a great website isn't just the cost of buying software (in the case of OSS, that would be free) but also the cost and time spent in building and maintaining it and keeping it lively. It's the human element that makes a website succeed once it's completed.

Like you, I would love to see some tiny libraries with awesome websites in the future.
