Announcing Our Library's New Website! - 2008/07/16 14:21 DeKalb County Public Library's new website is up and it's Joomla driven. Please take a look and let me know what you think. I've been working really hard on it with the library staff here. Also, thanks goes out to everyone on these forums for the helpful tips I got along the way. Thanks!

Re:Announcing Our Library's New Website! - 2008/07/16 14:29 very nice, Jimmy Great work! How long did it take you? I bet it was a lot of work...you are the one-man web development team 'n all. I added a back link to your library's website in Showcase.

I'm working on a redesign project for Whatcom County Library System. We are a few days away from the Prototype review. Yahoooo!!!

Re:Announcing Our Library's New Website! - 2008/07/16 15:21 Jimmy, what component did you use for the Branch Locater? That is sweet!!!

Re:Announcing Our Library's New Website! - 2008/07/18 15:46 Yes, it's pretty cool isn't it? It's not a component. I wrote some custom code using Google Maps API. It's pretty easy to write, and maybe I could even turn it into a full fledged module, but I'm not really sure how to do that. I started reading the Joomla module building documentation and it just kinda confused me.

If you wanna write something similiar, I can point you to some useful sources. Let me know.

Anyway, if you don't use the Jumi module yet, you should check it out. It allows you to put php code inside your pages, so you can basically do anything you want. That's how I did the branch locator.

Re:Announcing Our Library's New Website! - 2008/07/18 15:50 Whoops, i forgot to answer your other question.

I guess, all told, it took me about a year. Although a lot of that time was planning and meetings with library staff etc.

Thanks for the backlink!
