Which Events Calendar would you recommend? - 2007/06/05 19:37 I was wondering what Events Calendar you all recommend? I see a few on the Joomla extensions page, but I don't know which one I should use. I'll probably try them all, but I want your opinions.

I'm have a pretty long wishlist for a Calendar and I'll probably end up having to pick the closest one and do some custom coding/modifications... but if you're interested, here is my wishlist:

- categories for different kind of events
- color coding of categories
- an event can be in more than one category
- location
- ability to search by category
- ability to search by location
- ability to subscribe to a category's RSS feed (eg. see only Teen events)
- ability to subscribe to a location's RSS feed (eg. see events happening only at a certain branch)
- ability to mark events you plan on attending
- ability to print a custom calendar of events each user plans to attend
- ability to request a reminder for a certain event to be sent via e-mail automatically

There are probably a few more HAHAHA, yes very high standards!

Re:Which Events Calendar would you recommend? - 2007/06/05 20:43 lol, your wish list is as long as mine, if not longer. We will compare notes later.
I'm using two event calendar components, each has functionalities that would compliment the other. I'm working on integrating them as I find time.

Eventlist has event registration functionalities.

Re:Which Events Calendar would you recommend? - 2007/06/06 12:47 Hey Tao, thanks for the reply! I realized too late that this should've been in the extensions forum category, sorry!

Yeah, I'd be interested to know what your wish list looks like! Maybe there will be some overlap and we can collaborate on a calendar (or a modification of an existing calendar).

This isn't Joomla related, but I think it's relevant to what we're talking about: I found a calendar that I feel is the best and most fully featured implementation of a library calendar...

See it in action:

(I don't really like the design of the rest of the site, but the calendar is really cool).

Re:Which Events Calendar would you recommend? - 2007/06/06 21:20 I like it, Jimmy! I will put something together for you. I'm definitely interested in collaborating with you on a library-oriented event calendar. Do me one small favor - post a profile photo of you or your favorite place in Georgia.

Re:Which Events Calendar would you recommend? - 2007/06/07 14:15 Thanks Jimmy! See attached.

It's really not that complicated. We could get it done in like a week, right?

Re:Which Events Calendar would you recommend? - 2007/06/07 22:09 I have been using JEvents for a few months. It is a rewrite of the old Mambo Events Calendar. The reason I am using this extension is that the developers are actually active in writing and improving the code. The next version, which should be out any day, will have the ability to import iCal data.

Re:Which Events Calendar would you recommend? - 2007/06/08 15:31 Bob, thank you!

I had no idea what you were talking about in regard to ICal yesterday. Funny thing is - I had someone asking me today if the Joomla Calendar I'm using support ICal Data exchange. My understanding now is that ICal is the industry standard for calendar application. I'm adding 'ICal Data Support" on my wish list for a Joomla Calendar.

I tested JEvents and liked its functionalities. But it doesn't have all that we needs. I guess I'm looking for a Omega Calendar that is highly flexible as a event calendar and robust as a event registration system.
