Re:Open Source Solutions for Public Libraries - 2007/06/20 13:36
Thanks to Randy for mentioning the Howard County Library. We've been big on Open Source for a long time.
My boss, Amy DeGroff, has started a page that explains our position on why we are so supportive of Open Source community.
We currently use Linux on all servers we can (unfortunately still a few Windows servers), Groovix for our PACS, OpenOffice, Firefox and Opera as our browsers, Pidgin, Joomla (for both our staff Intranet and our Civility website), Gaim, Thunderbird, Open VPN (love it because I'm now able to work from home 1 day a week and have access to stuff on my desktop including Horizon), and coming this fall we will have an Ubuntu desktop for staff members. I'm sure there is more to this list but that is all that is coming to my head at the moment.
