wiki or something else - 2007/04/17 19:33 We are incorporating Joomla for our staff page (along with our public one) and one thing that has come up in dicussions is having a wiki. People see it as an option to be able to easily collaborate on projects/documents.

I guess I have two questions
1) Is anyone using a staff page with this type of functionality and if so how's it working?
2) Are you using a wiki extension on Joomla and if so which one? I'm having a hard time installing Mambowiki (keep getting a /media directory error)

Thanks!

Re:wiki or something else - 2007/04/18 21:35 What do mean by "Staf page (along with our public one)? Can you be a little bit more specific about what you are trying to accomplish as far as collaborate on projects/document?

I don't know if this helps, but Discussion Forums can be used as an option for project collabration.

I have never experimented with the Wiki component. Anyone else??

Re:wiki or something else - 2007/04/19 15:45 We are a 3 county -- 9 branch library system (with branches in rural and urban areas) -- so to communicate throughout the system we use the staff site as a centralized place for system policies, business office forms, system telephone numbers, FAQ, staff training calendar, etc... right now all web content (public or staff) has to go through my 2 person office -- so we are looking at using Joomla to help with our content/updating on both sites. (... is that clear? makes sense to me but I never know)

I use forums a lot -- but unfortunately the majority of the staff here doesn't think as linear as I do....So I'm hoping a wiki could help those individuals collaborate across the system on programming, policies etc...

Re:wiki or something else - 2007/04/20 15:09 Staff Site - is it like a extranet? Do you have a URL I could visit?

"Communicate throughout the system we use the staff site as a centralized place for system policies, business office forms, system telephone numbers, FAQ, staff training calendar, etc."

  • For a centralized place for system policies and related documents, why not use a Document Management System like Docman... only authorized people (assign previliages to users) can view and upload documents and such... assign a manager to approve documents uploaded by users.

  • You can use a FAQ component, such as, Simple FAQ to organized Questions and Answers. Again, authorized users can post questions and answers.

  • As far as staff training calendar, there are a few calender components, such as, Eventlist or Extcalender. Authorized users can post training events and such. Administrator can approve these events
