It is mostly functioning but seems to be really slow at times. Would anyone mind checking the site and telling me what you think? Thanks.

If so, your site may be sharing resources with who knows how many other sites. Joomla sites require a server with decent RAM and CPU to process all the SQL queries your website generates.

Initially, we purchased a shared hosting plan with IPower.com to host SC State Library's Joomla site. The site was pretty slow. We purchased a web server and moved our site in house Novemeber last year.. and now no more speed issues.

F.Y.I. JoomlaInLibrary.com is on a shared hosting plan with http://Live2Create.net. So far performance has been decent for $7.95/month

I checked your site on a Sunday at 11 AM and it did seem slow to me using my Comcast cable connection at home. I have the same problem with a personal Joomla website using Network Solutions. At work, I have the luxury of having a Linux server dedicated to just a few operations including the Library websites. When I first started using Mambo/Joomla, the Library site was slow then I discovered the need to tweak MySql. Once I made adjustments to the configuration of MySql the website performance dramatically increased. I doubt that your hosting service will tweak MySql just for you perhaps a hosting service that specializes in Joomla would be best or paying extra for a dedicated server per month (Yikes!).

It seems a little better after contacting support (of course their diagnosis is "local connectivity problem". The site is on shared hosting so I guess this is what it will be for the time being.
