For years, I used Sirsi-Dynix Remote Patron Authentication and spent many hours on the telephone to various Database Vendors trying to get things to work consistently. Then I discovered that Database Vendors (most of them) will set up authentication for you on their servers (Gale, EBSCOhost, etc...) Since I switched over to all of the vendors authenticating, I have had no problems.
Yes, I guess it would be nice to have the Joomla registration or Community Builder Component link to your Integrated Library System but I do not know of anyone who has attempted this yet.
